We are so blessed to be born in an era where getting relevant information that we can use is already easy. But for the past generations, this will require them some degree of long term waiting. Oral tradition is one of those things that are widely used in order to distribute information to different people. And since the exact words can be added and deducted after passing from one person to another, myths start to arise.

Different countries have their own set of myths and legends. From the origins of their place up to the history of locals, they have always been associated with legends and stories that have been handed down from one generation to the next. Same can be said with the ever popular scary voodoo dolls.

They are famous accessories in some current horror films and are highly commended for their wide variation. Some see them as a bad omen while others find some good things hidden on these grotesque items. If you are interested about them, then the following common myths might help you have a fast idea on how other people see them.

They can create curses to people. Witches are fictional characters. But in some ways, they have factual basis. In the past, people who resort to animal and even human sacrifices to call on their gods are considered as witches and wizards. They are treated as outcasts from the society because of their terrible practices. Voodoo dolls are said to be their creation. Using it, they can send out curses to people in the form of plague and diseases.

They may heal common illness. At the opposite side of the argument come those individuals who believe that these dolls are tangible gifts from the heavens. They think its a sort of holy item that can help cure diseases if you only believe and ask. Believers on this side portray an angelic image of this voodoo item rather than a gruesome one.

They may serve as vessels for souls. Who hasn't heard about reincarnation. Whether you look at legends, stories, and religion, this matter has always piqued the interest of many. To some, these dolls can house the souls of dead people.

Murdering. As terrible as the thought could be, there are really people who believe that they can use voodoo items to murder people. By making one as a representation of an actual thing, they will be able to do anything to the doll which is expected to take the same effect on the actual person.

Living entities of night. Lastly, there is this belief about the individuality of dolls. Its been said that they have lives of their own and only awakens during the night. They cannot do any harm during day time as this is considered as their dormant period. But once evening strikes, they can start hunting the residents of any place.

No matter how believable these stories may seem, its important to remember that they are all myths. Which means, there aren't any solid proof supporting those stories behind them. It can be entertaining to hear how different cultures portray this item. Just make sure you zap yourself back to reality when you find yourself believing it.
